While this is overall one of the better accessories available for the Switch at the moment (both in terms of quality and price), it has its issues with comfortability. No product is without its faults, however. Playing Breath of the Wild with the LVL 40 gaming headset on is almost transcendent. Playing undocked is already a more intimate experience due to the closeness of the screen, but adding a more sophisticated layer of sound only elevates that immersion. With sound drowned out by the ear cushions, immersing oneself while playing Switch is easier than ever. If nothing else, the ear cushions ensure that the LVL 40 Headset stay on comfortably without giving listeners a headache, even at their loudest (at least as far as gaming is concerned.) In particular, the crispness of the audio ends up pairing terrifically with an undocked Switch. Careless listeners will age their ears ups, but the sonically responsible shouldn't be any worse for wear. PDP's LVL 40 Headset is deceptively loud, though, and it's easy to increase the volume by "just a tiny bit" until they're blaring at unreasonable levels. Of course, the headset's volume is fully toggle-able, and comfortably at that, with the volume notch sitting behind the left ear. While the Switch's max volume ensures that the headset's output will never be too overwhelming, listening to music or watching a movie on a non-gaming system at max volume is a disaster waiting to happen. Turning them into a daily use headset is certainly tempting, but that's not its purpose.Īudio quality is incredibly clear, but this also means the headset can get quite loud - to the point where it's not unusual to pick up on new sounds even when revisiting familiar games. Anything with a headphone jack will take the LVL 40 headset, but it's important to keep in mind that this is ultimately designed around gaming. As it's no different from the PS4 and Xbox One variants, except aesthetically, the headset will plug into the DualShock 4 or Xbox One controller just fine. ![]() It's also worth noting that the headset isn't locked solely to the Nintendo Switch. ![]() This isn't too big of a deal as there are third party controllers that are compatible with the headset (such as PDP's Afterglow Deluxe + Audio Wired Controller), but it's an important detail to keep in mind for those who play mostly docked or with first party controllers. Sporting the Switch's now iconic neon blue and red with pride, PDP's LVL 40 Gaming Headset looks better than ever - and arguably makes more sense as a Switch accessory.Īs neither the Joycon or the Pro Controller feature traditional headphone jacks, PDP's LVL 40 Gaming Headset is going to have to pair with an undocked Nintendo Switch more often than not. While the actual headset itself is identical to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions where it counts, the Nintendo Switch model offers consumers a more colourful alternative of the gaming headset. PDP's Wired Stereo Headset has been out for some time now, but it's finally getting a variant designed specifically for the Nintendo Switch.
